Thursday night we have our weekly conversation discussion and Saturday evening Dr. Applauso gives a short presentation about the movie and its historical context followed by a live film screening. If you cannot attend the live screening on Saturdays NO PROBLEM! A link will be sent to you so you can watch the lesson and movie on your own time!

              ALL MOVIES ARE IN ITALIAN LANGUAGE WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES!

This course is a survey of Italian cinema focused on one of the most renowned Italian comedy movies in recent years. While learning general information about the context of the movies, we will also explore the issues that each movie highlights such as family and romantic relationships, friendship, food, ethics, loyalty, love and the Italian south in relation to modern Italian history, culture, politics, and society. We will also take into account the effects of historical situations and locations on each movie discussing the impact between literary fiction and reality. This course will also explore major genres and periods in Italian film history and will also serve as an introduction to a few of the major Italian directors, actors, and actresses in contemporary Italian cinema.

This course is designed for the student who already has a functional command of the language, and a grasp on the basic structures of Italian grammar. Italian will be the exclusive language of instruction.
