TEACHING ITALIAN TO CHILDREN

WHY SHOULD YOU DO IT?

There are great benefits for children learning a second language alongside their native one; here are some of the main ones (Courtesy of the MLA)":

Our first advice is to create a world that is INCLUSIVE AND OPEN, which means allowing children to explore everything around them as being ITALIAN!  This includes showing your child/children movies and songs in Italian as part of their normal routine, but also doing things TOGETHER WITH THEM (like cooking and singing or shopping for Italian products in stores or exploring Italian cuisine in local restaurants). The learning process never happens on its own (don't leave your children in front of the screen ALONE watch and enjoy things TOGETHER) but needs consistent dedication and nurturing. Parents needs to be as excited and involved in learning and practice Italian as their child/children so Italian becomes part of the family life and accepted as part of their normal routine.
SO START WITH A BOOK!  Here are some good resources to start:

There are good numbers of songs and animated movies from the Internet like the ZECCHINO D'ORO Children animated songs (Available on YouTube HERE:
Lo Zecchino d'Oro (youtube.com) or the fun MUZZY LANGUAGE LEARNING CARTOONS/COURSES for children as young as 1 year old to 3-4 years old (available here: About Us – MUZZY BBC Language Learning For Children.
